Two exhibitions in Antibes featuring Bernard Alligand’s artist’s books

In 2026, the Albert Camus Media Library in Antibes is showcasing several of my artist’s books through two exhibitions. From Kenneth White to Bernard Noël, and including Michel Butor for his centenary, these events highlight the unique dialogues between their writing and my visual art.

Until September 5 — "20 Years of Artist’s Book Acquisitions"

The exhibition dedicated to twenty years of acquisitions by the media library notably features two works produced with Éditions d’art FMA.

En Scandinavie (2019), created with Kenneth White, draws us into the territories of the North—their rocks, traces, and memories. I respond to his geopoetic writing with a mineral-inspired approach using photographs of transformed rock formations, tracing paper, and carborundum prints, all in a palette of blacks, whites, and deep blues.

Trajet de l’oiseau (2018), created with Bernard Noël, explores movement, the body, and language. Carborundum etching, Icelandic black sand, embossing, and translucent resin accompany the poem’s momentum, leading to the large central figure of the bird—an echo of Braque’s birds.

November 3 to 28 — Tribute to Michel Butor

In the autumn, the media library will host a new exhibition marking the centenary of Michel Butor’s birth, featuring numerous books created in collaboration with artists—including several works we produced together.

This presentation will showcase a dialogue that spanned many years. Michel was a traveler at heart; landscapes, materials, colors, and discoveries fueled our exchanges, serving as starting points for both writing and artistic creation.

These two exhibitions—through three distinct literary voices—reveal different facets of my work with the artist’s book.
